beliefs:
Greenpeace:
-They are environmental activists who's main areas of concern are global warming, nuclear energy, forest preservation, oceans, and sustainable agriculture.
-Rather than using violence or aggression, they believe in raising public awareness without using drastic measures.
-For example, they have worked to stop nuclear testing, and protect Antartica.
-They are known as the WARRIORS OF THE RAINBOW!

Sierra Club:
-In contrast to Green Peace, Sierra Club also focuses on stopping animal abuses, such as eating animal products. They are still focused on protecting the environment.
-They also are considered 'anti-growth' and 'anti-technology' becuase they want to put a halt to new technology and expansion that is threatening the environment.

political activity & lobbying/legislation attempts:
Greenpeace:
-The current campaigns that Greenpeace is conducting include 'defending our oceans' which includes a stop to whaling as well as an end to industrial fishing, unfair fishing, bycatch, global warming and pollution, and the Energy [r]evolution campaign, which promotes finding new sources of renewable energy that will benefit the well being of mankind.

-Greenpeace does NOT have a PAC, and therefore cannot directly lobby. They publically support legislation and lobbying attempts, however. Recently, they have given a statement in support of the "No New Drilling Act of 2010" which wants to prohibit all areas besides the Continental shelf for drilling, exploration, etc. They originally supported the Waxmen-Markey legislation, otherwise known as the American Clean Energy and Security Act, however, they withdrew this support due to the belief that the legislation was not powerful enough to properly address global warming.

Sierra Club:
-The Sierra Club is currently focused on preventing further planting of genetically engineered crops.
-They DO have a PAC-In 2010, it contributed $39,055, all to Democratic candidates. (http://209.190.229.99/pacs/lookup2.php?strID=C00135368)
- The Sierra club uses lobbyists at the state and national level that seek to promote enviromental cuases.

-Examples of state level legislation include the Next Generation Energy Act from Minnesota that establishes a moritorium on the construction of new coal fired plants until a comprehensive carbon reduction plan is established. Also, just recently in California, there has been a final attempt in this legislative session to try and pass enviromental legislation regarding clean energy.

-They are currently not working on national legislation.
